Team
Sumesh spent 18+ years in operating & C-suite roles across industry agnostic businesses all over the world. Having spent time in hyper-growth markets, he is well positioned to understand the balancing act of investing for growth while managing a healthy P&L. He started investing in Better-for-You CPG brands with Gurdeep 7 years ago and is a deep networker. His passion for the space and supporting entrepreneurs through hyper-growth phases is what makes him really tick. He’s lived in 5 different countries and now calls sunny L.A home.
Born and raised in Canada and having spent 11 years living in Asia, Gurdeep has spent the majority of his career as an accomplished investment banker having worked on numerous multi-billion dollar M&A deals and taking companies public on stock exchanges all over the world. Gurdeep spent most of his career with J.P. Morgan and BNP Paribas, most recently as Managing Director, before pursuing his passion to bring positive change to the food and beverage industry.
As a former operator at two different startups in the emerging technologies space, Jai brings experience in data analysis, product building, and market segmentation to the Rocana team. He is also deeply interested in building local startup ecosystems and supporting entrepreneurs in the BFY food space, as a mentor & advisor at the University of Missouri and MassChallenge (among others). Jai's first experience with investing came at NYU Stern—where he studied business, political economy, and philosophy—and remains a proud NJ native.
Fredel is an intern associate at Rocana where she relies on her knowledge and expertise in the food space. She focuses on improving efficiency within startup organizations with integrative approaches to health and wellness as they relate to food and food systems. Fredel studied business at USC and is now earning her MBA at UCLA Anderson. She also has sales and information systems experience in tech, having worked for both Oracle and Snap before launching her own entrepreneurial venture in the hospitality space in Los Angeles.
